Gizem Sercan Ünsal

Gizem Sercan Ünsal completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Istanbul University with high honors. She completed her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Istanbul Bilgi University—where she studied on a full merit scholarship—in the Couple and Family Therapy program accredited by the International Family Therapy Association (IFTA), also graduating with high honors. She wrote her thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Yudum Söylemez, on the adult couple relationship experiences of individuals who had experienced parental care during childhood. She completed her clinical internships at the French Lape Hospital, Korto Psychology, and the Bilgi University Psychological Counseling Center. In addition to the seminars and supervision sessions she attended, her educational background includes the Level 1 and Level 2 Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy trainings organized by the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT), the Oxford Mindfulness MBSR training, and the Embodied Interaction Skills for Psychotherapists training from Dr. Zeynep Çatay. ​ Before pursuing psychology, she graduated in 2010 from the Industrial Engineering department at Koç University, where she studied on a scholarship, and worked for a time in the fast-moving consumer goods and information technology sectors. In her clinical practice, she works with a systemic and psychodynamic orientation in areas such as anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, loss and grief, relationship issues, and migration and adaptation processes. She supports her work with experiential practices, mindfulness, and body-oriented approaches. She continues to provide psychological counseling to adults, couples, and families at Tin Us Psychology.
